Peer Wellness Educator

Miner Wellness seeks responsible individuals dedicated to wellness promotion, violence prevention, substance abuse education, nutrition/fitness, tobacco cessation, sexual health and mental health. Peer Wellness Educators (PWE) assist the Miner Wellness staff on educational projects, primary prevention programs, social norms campaigns, and awareness campaigns. Peer Wellness Educators  bring an important student perspective to the wellness team. Peer Wellness Educators will receive extensive training and are required to develop, implement, and coordinate campus wellness programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Peer Wellness Educators will provide programming, mentoring, and training on a wide spectrum of wellness topics to groups and individuals, and will be assigned a content area in which to specialize. Specific requirements are as follows:

  • Work 6 – 8 hours per week
    • Attend weekly Joe’s PEERS meetings (Monday’s at 12PM)
    • Attend weekly PWE meetings
    • Meet weekly with group members
    • Meet with assigned Miner Wellness staff weekly
  • Act as a mentor/resource person on assigned wellness focus to the Joe’s PEERS student group
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate four (4) active programs in focus area (1/month) each semester
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate two (2) passive programs in focus area each semester
  • Update and maintain outreach presentations
  • Create marketing materials to promote programs
  • Collaborate with various departments and student groups to foster a team approach to wellness
  • Assist with implementation of Joe’s PEERS training retreat

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 20 programming hours and regular meeting and office hour attendance
  • Have attended a JP Retreat
  • Ability to commit to one full year of work (two semesters)

COMPENSATION

  • Peer Wellness Educators will be paid at the rate of $8.50/hour
